Innovation Women and Women in Tech Summit Partner to Drive More Opportunities for Women

November 30, 2016 (Boston and Philadelphia) – Today Boston-based Innovation Women (IW) and Philadelphia-based Women in Tech Summit (WITS) announced a new partnership designed to support more visibility for women in technology.

Innovation Women’s mission is to increase diversity onstage at events and conferences, and drive more visibility for its member speakers. Visibility leads to jobs, invitations to join boards, more funding, and connections with customers and partners. Women in Tech Summit events are designed to inspire, educate and connect women in the technology industry. WITS’ mission is to support the community of women currently working in technology, and to help pave the way for women and young women who want to enter the industry.

“As we expand into other regions, having access to great speakers through Innovation Women will help us continue to deliver the highest quality content,” said Gloria Bell, WITS co-founder and director of operations. “Meanwhile, our events will continue to provide attendees with a unique combination of hands-on tech workshops; information and discussions about diverse careers in tech.”

“After speaking at a WITS event, I immediately recognized the unique value the organization provides, welcoming women from a plethora of roles in technology,” said Bobbie Carlton, one of the founders of Innovation Women. “Their depth and breadth provides great opportunities for our speakers.”

Innovation Women is supporting WITS’ non-profit partner, TechGirlz, by donating a portion of the proceeds from its current “Good4Girls” promotion. Speakers who sign up for a new profile can receive a $25 discount on the annual fee and TechGirlz also receives a $25 donation when the speaker uses the code Good4TG.

The WITS organization has been running events in Philadelphia for the last four years and expanded this year to other cities. The 2017 slate has events set for:

  • Washington, D.C (March 2017)
  • Philadelphia, PA (April 21-22, 2017)
  • Boston, MA (July 22, 2017)
  • Raleigh-Durham, NC (Fall 2017)

WITS will invite speakers from the IW database in addition to accepting submissions for speakers for future events. The 2017 WITS Call for Speakers is now open and accepting submissions through January 15, 2017. WITS will also offer its speaker members, alumni and guests discounted access to Innovation Women memberships.

The Women in Tech Summit Announces 2015 Conference in Baltimore
Organization expanding to reach new communities of women in technology based on success of its annual Philadelphia Summit
July 30, 2015 (Philadelphia) – The Women in Tech Summit, a series of annual events that inspire, educate and connect women in the technology industry, announced today the addition of a new 2015 summit in Baltimore. The Baltimore Women in Tech Summit will be the first event outside of the organization’s native Philadelphia, and introduces the next phase for the conference as it expands to bring the event’s valuable content to new regions.
The 2015 Baltimore Women in Tech Summit will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the University of Baltimore Business Center, and is sponsored by the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business. The event will kick off with an opening keynote by connection-maker, networking strategist and expert community manager Kelly Hoey, who is the co-founder of Women Innovate Mobile, LLC (WIM), the first startup accelerator focused exclusively on fast-tracking the growth of early-stage mobile technology ventures with gender-diverse founding teams. Following the keynote speech, will be a full day of additional speaker sessions, workshops and a networking lunch.
“There’s a large gap in the technology industry for women,” said Gloria Bell, Operations Director of the Women in Tech Summit. “For women already in the tech field or young women looking to enter the industry, the Summit is an exceptional way to find a supportive group of professional, like-minded women sharing the same journey.”
Founder of TechGirlz, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls to become future technology leaders, and also the chief marketing officer at Chariot Solutions, Tracey Welson-Rossman created the Women in Tech Summit four years ago as a way to get Philadelphia-area women in technology together to talk about all the important things that were missing in the current technology conference market.
“The Philadelphia Women in Tech Summit has been so successful over the past four years, bringing technology-focused women from all over the region together to learn and share ideas,” said Welson-Rossman. “It provides real, actionable opportunities for women to further their careers in tech with hands-on workshops, networking and in-depth discussions that delve into what really matters for women in this industry.”
One of the very few women-in-technology conferences available, the Women in Tech Summit provides attendees with insight and opportunities uniquely tailored to the needs of women working in the technology industry. Each summit includes deep, hands-on workshops, information and discussions about careers in tech and how to pursue them, as well as networking opportunities with other women.
The Women in Tech Summit was first held in Philadelphia in 2011, and attracted an attendance of 150 local professionals in technology. This year, the 2015 Philadelphia Summit sold out with 325 people in attendance, and had a waiting list surpassing 250 individuals. The success of the event in Philadelphia, combined with strong attendee requests, sparked the event’s expansion to add the new Baltimore Summit.
“By expanding to new regions, we are able to bring together strong, local, women-centered technology communities in areas where we know women can both benefit and contribute to the amazing content the Women in Tech Summit provides,” Bell said. “The success of the Philadelphia Summit proved just how much desire and support there is for these events.”
Each summit is produced by The Women in Tech Summit organization alongside a local volunteer committee in the specific summit’s region. Each local committee assists with planning the event, securing speakers from the local women in tech community, and managing the marketing of the event to ensure it meets the needs of each region.
All profits generated from each summit will support the non-profit TechGirlz and its ongoing mission to reduce and eliminate the gender gap in computer and other technology occupations. TechGirlz hosts free and fun hands-on workshops to empower middle-school age girls to be the next generation of technology leaders.
Tickets for the Baltimore Women in Tech Summit are available for purchase through the summit’s website at http://womenintechs.wpengine.com/baltimore/.
